Killer Croc Bust update

Another work-in-progress look at the Killer Croc sculpt I have been working on. He has changed a bit since the last update, been working on his teeth and scales a lot. Trying out different techniques for scales, as you can see there are differences between his chest and face in terms of the size and shape of them. I’ve been looking at real crocodiles as references, mainly the smaller American Croc. It’s interesting that around their head the scales are quite fused together, forming larger shapes, due to the lack of need for movement on the skin, whereas on the neck they are segmented so that they can move around. In designing a hybrid of a man and a croc I am trying to decide where it would be logical for these scales to be placed. Stay tuned for more updates!!

WIP Killer Croc bust (FullSize)

Work in progress of my latest venture into clay sculpture, life size head and shoulders of Batman’s enemy, Killer Croc- albeit my own interpretation of the beast. So far it’s just the shape being roughed out, you can see the tool marks everywhere where I rake the shapes so that they blend together. Once the Shape is done then I will use finer rake tools to refine and smoothen out the surface, adding scale and skin details as I go. In the last image you can see my simple setup on my coffee table, with photo reference right at my fingertips. Not an ideal workstation, but it means I can watch stuff on Netflix while sculpting. More to come hopefully next week!
Sculpt details- so far 2kgs Chavant ‘Le Beau Touche’. Sculpted on top of a generic male mannequin head. Glass eyes.

WIP creature bust

current Work in progress, sculpted over a half scale (or 3rd scale, I'm not sure) human skull (kindly donated by my buddy John Berry). I decided to do something a little stranger from what I normally do, so no Dinosaurs or robots, but instead a.. *insert goth growley voice*.. Demon! You can see some of the process i do, roughing the surface with various tools and rakes to eventually get a smooth surface. More to follow soon!

New Character Sculpt

yet another face I've been mucking around with lately, managed to get some glass eyes to add some life to it. also experimented with a new skin texture technique. I think he looks like he could be some sort of reptile, or he had some sort of Pox at some stage..Spent a good while on the eyes, looking at how real eyelids fold up into the brow and how that can be incorporated into a design. next one i hope to do a full head/shoulders.. stay tuned!

Face Sculpt Finished (for now..)

Did some more detail and skin textures on this guy, think I've reached the end of it now regarding this particular design. Now that he is fully documented I will tear the clay off teh face and start a new one.. lets see what happens

'What you lookin at Bub??'
Pretty much a win with this single image here, the whole exercise in concepting a characters face in 3D is worth it for this pose.

Finaly, here is a quick color comp done in photoshop, thinking about what colors he could be! :)
