Dragons, Balrogs and Wolves- a week of Sketching

A week off work, a chance to do some extra scribbles and doodles! for a change, regular viewers will notice there are no Dinosaurs or Aliens. You're welcome.

I had the idea of doing a painting of the Balrog Vs Gandalf on a large canvas I have. some thumbnail doodles below prove that I started looking into this idea.

Boom- a robot, I gave up aliens and dinos for this post but this guy snuck in!

Quick Marker Scribble

I have not been updating lots recently, need to start getting back into the habit. meanwhile here is a quick sketch from lunchtime- you guys are in for a treat, this time its not a black Biro scribble..

Avengers of Roarsville!

Its official!! season 2 of Henry Hugglemonster has been announced!

and on that note I thought it would be a good time to share a Hugglemonster mash-up that was done earlier in the year (But had not been able to post it due to an unreleased character)

So here it is, a Monstery version of Marvel's Avengers.

each character was done with Pen and Watercolor on brown card before being slapped together in a New York scene.

First, Henry as Cap' Merica!

Cobby the inventor as Iron Man!

Summer as Black Widow

Denzel as the God of Thunder- THOR!

The mighty Estelle as Hulk

and finally the bad-guy, Roddy as Loki

Truck Raptor!

Truck thingy and Raptor critter! I swear one day i will stop drawing dinosaurs..Y'all might be waiting a while though..

Vehicle thingys

Instead of attempting to scribble odd robots and dinosaurs, I've decided to attempt to scribble some trucks and ships instead. Although I see now one of them has kind of robot-esque legs.. Dammit!

Friday Sketches II

Going for a 'Less is more' approach this week, just 4 little doodles I've done this week. Robot buzz from last week is carrying over with an additional Nasa element.........

Sketch Dump Friday

lots of random sketches child-like scrawls in pen from the last few days, on a bit of a robot buzz at the moment if you couldn't tell from the results..

More Kaiju

Some more Kaiju doodles, more watercolors. I think this could become a new epidemic on this blog, much like aliens, robots and dinosaurs already infect the place.

Lunchtime Kaiju

Saw Pacific Rim on the weekend, blown away by everything, particularly the creature design, so when i was out at lunch yesterday I decided to have a go at some of my own Kaiju designs. A bit rough and ready, but tonnes of fun. (about 26,000 tonnes to be exact)

Sunday Sketching

Hey folks, been a while since I posted, here are some scribbles done in StarBucks and Natural History Museum in Dubs, met up with fellow scribblers from Brown Bag and hung around drawing all kinds of crazy stuffs. one day I will post some proper art that does'nt revolve around robots.or aliens.or dinosaurs.. I don't have a timeframe for that happening however.

Night Photography

Something i love doing is taking photos of night time cities and scenery, there's something beautiful about city lights, even mundane streets are transformed. anywhere i seem to go i always take these kind of photos, fast become a real habit of journeying abroad. Here is a small collection of my favourite

Monkstown, Dublin

Across the Bay in Dublin

On the Ferry to Roscoff

Les Deux Alpes

Annecy

Singapore

Iron Cobby (Hugglemonsters)

Saw Iron Man 3 yesterday, completely blown away.. so I couldn't resist a sneak peak at part of a larger Huggle-mashup that I have yet to reveal.  Cobby as Iron man. I figure he is the inventor of the show, he must have made one of these suits for himself at some point. (anyone who doesn't know Cobby, check out Disney Brown Bags 'Henry Hugglemonster'- its awesome!)

watercolor and acrylic on brown card paper

Digital Painting Practice

Been a while since I updated, was working on another Hugglemonsters Mashup that will be uploaded in a few weeks (certain characters in it are not released on TV yet so it will have to wait), in the meantime here are some painting sketchey things I've been doing.

found some cool photos and tried to roughly capture the color etc freehand.

posted a sketch a few weeks back and revisited it in my free time to practice some new techniques I've learned from the Wizards of BBF. also made a cool new cover image, killing 2 birds with one stone!

'Game of Roars'

Another Hugglemonsters mashup, this time- Game of Thrones!

began sketching Daddo in the iconic 'Eddard Stark' pose.

final sketch, watercolor + acrylic, with some final touching up in Photoshop.

Breaking Bad: Roarsville

Been watching lots of Breaking Bad lately and had to do a Hugglemonster version, with Daddo as 'Walt' and Denzel as 'Jesse'. I figured  Daddo wouldnt be cooking 'Huggle-phetamines' with his son, and Denzel seems the perfect fit for the duo.

This is the initial doodle..

Then cleaned up with fine pen (sorry about photo quality-no scanner)

Acrylic + Watercolor overlay

some extra shadows added in Photoshop

'Star Wugs'- Hugglemonster mashup

Here's an old sketch from last year that I could not publish until the Hugglemonster cast had been revealed.  pen and watercolor, gave the original to Niamh Sharkey. i never would have thought that star wars would end up being owned by Disney when i drew it, strangely appropriate now that its a mashup of 2 Disney worlds mow

(Character copyright belongs to Disney/Niamh Sharkey- I do not claim ownership)

Predator Sketch WIP

Was doodling the other evening and found myself drawing a Predator..

then decided to draw another, this time with a screengrab from one of the films as reference.. just roughly blocked out the shape with the reference then filled in the detail from memory. Predators are a cool subject to draw, with dynamic poses and an iconic silhouette they always look bad-ass
This is how it is progressing, might overlay some color on it with watercolor or Photoshop, have yet to decide..
